WHO DOES THIS REQUIREMENT APPLY TO?

All licensees under the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists are required to complete six hours of approved CE within their renewal period to maintain good standing.

This includes:

Senior Cosmetologists
Cosmetologists
Hairstylists
Hairstylists – Blowdry
Estheticians
Nail Technicians
Lash Tech-Extensions

Maryland House Bill (HB) 1600 Requiring the MD State Board of Cosmetologists, beginning on October 1, 2018, to require a licensee renewing a license to complete at least six credit hours of continuing education approved by the Board to qualify for the renewal of a license. Enforcement starts Jan. 1, 2026. This requirement applies to everyone who wishes to maintain their license in Maryland, regardless of place of residence. 6 hours are REQUIRED for All Beauty LICENSE RENEWAL EVERY 2 YEARS. There is no grandfather clause—no matter how long you have held your license, this requirement applies to ALL license renewals. Licensees are encouraged to take courses at any time during their renewal period and may encounter challenges with license renewal if courses are taken at the last minute when a license is about to expire.

2 hours Mandatory Health, Safety, Welfare, Board Laws, or Regulations (pick 1)

2 hrs Sanitation & Decontamination

2 hrs MD Regulations

AND

4 hours of Electives topics. All posted classes are CE approved and must be in your salon license scope of practice for credit.

2 hr Online Classes are in Gray (pick 2). All other colors are in-person learning for 4hrs (pick 1).
